A new 23-song tribute to the works of highly influential alternative metal outfit Deftones saw a release yesterday, June 20th. That compilation finds just as many artists taking on songs from throughout the multi-platinum Sacramento band’s acclaimed catalog, putting their own spin on the tracks for charity. All the proceeds from the compilation will go towards Oasis For Youth, a Minneapolis, MN non-profit aimed at providing services to at risk youth.
Organizers behind the compilation had the following to say about the effort and the mission behind it:
“By supporting this release, you’re supporting Oasis for Youth in Bloomington, MN, where young people from 16-24 years old who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness can find extraordinary support. We’re proud to deliver all the proceeds from this tribute to Oasis, an organization that values compassion, inclusivity and elevating young people. Please visit their website and consider donating your resources to them or an organization like theirs in your community. The number of youth experiencing homelessness has risen to an all-time high. Your contribution is meaningful and deeply appreciated.
Thirty years since their debut and on the precipice of their tenth studio release, Deftones continue to ascend artistically and commercially. This Spring, they played their first arena tour as the only headlining act and sold out every performance of the first leg, 26 shows. With a devoted fan base that’s grown over every album cycle and more recently, an organic explosion of young fans on social media, Deftones are more popular than ever, and they are finally being recognized for the depth and breadth of their musical and cultural influence. We’re excited to add to that effort.
The artists who generously lent their talents to this project hail from music communities in Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Minneapolis, London and Deftones’ hometown, Sacramento. They selected music from across Deftones’ catalog and performed in a variety of genres, highlighting a sliver of Deftones’ wide and eclectic range of impact. As you rediscover the songs you love, we hope you’ll find new artists you’re eager to explore and support.
Thank you for listening to Deftones, and thank you for listening to our tribute. We’re thrilled to honor Deftones inspirational legacy with this tremendous collection of musicians while centering Oasis for Youth, an organization dedicated to showing up for the young people that have buoyed Deftones’ recent success.
