Last December, while working as a DJ at a strip club in Portland, OR, American Me drummer Duncan Allen was stabbed 5 times by an exotic dancer. He was hospitalized as a result of the attack, with this GoFundMe launched to help him out.
Speaking to People shortly after the incident, Allen stated of his relationship with his attacker prior, “We’ve had a great working relationship the couple of times we worked together. She’s always asked for music and I played it. She’s always tipped me really well. We’ve always been friendly.”
The dancer in question, Peyton Lathan, was initially charged with attempted murder, first-degree and second-degree assault, and the unlawful use of a weapon. She went on to plead not guilty to the charges.
Allen for his part has channeled the harrowing experience into art, using it as fuel for the new song and music video “Clipped Wings” from his outfit Hard Pill, which he fronts. Allen directed that video, which is prefaced by security cam footage of the above-mentioned attack, along with the following introduction:
“On December 8th, 2024 Duncan Allen was almost senselessly murdered for no reason brought on by an unprovoked attack by Peyton Colby Lathan.
He sustained multiple injuries including a collapse lung, 5 puncture wounds on his back/side, a defensive wound on his hand, and a massive amount of mental trauma.
The attack has brought on multiple panic attacks a week and nightmares which have been debilitating in every possibly way.
After 2 months of rehabilitation, Duncan made a nearly full physical recovery and returned to creating music with Hard Pill.”
The band also provided the following disclaimer regarding the video and song:
