Tool‘s venerated drummer Danny Carey sat in with veteran jam rockers Umphrey’s McGee for a cover of King Crimson‘s “Red” during yesterday’s (March 09th) closing date of Tool‘s first-ever ‘Tool Live In The Sand‘ festival. That event was held on the beaches near the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
The cover likely didn’t require much prep for Carey, who spent a significant chunk of 2024 out on the road covering King Crimson as part of a collective tribute to the 80s material of the aforementioned British prog rock legends. That outfit, BEAT, found Carey joined by former King Crimson members Adrian Belew and Tony Levin, along with guitar hero Steve Vai. They’ll next be heading out this spring for a South American trek.
