With a history of contentious legal battles and animosity between key members, gold-certified industrial groove metal band Fear Factory haven’t had the easiest go of it. That influential outfit have most recently been rebuilt by guitarist Dino Cazares, who is the sole original member left on the roster after he gained the rights to the group’s trademarks.
Now it would seem that at least one ex-member is seeking to ‘remanufacture’ some of the band’s early magic. Ex-bassist/vocalist Christian Olde Wolbers, who was deeply involved in the various legal battles that took place within Fear Factory, recently announced the formation of his new project, Angst Fabrik.
While he’s described that project’s name as being a ‘working title’, its current direct translation in German to ‘Fear Factory‘ doesn’t exactly mask his intentions at what he is aiming to do with this new outfit.
Recent posts on social media from that project, which is currently in writing mode, also seem to further indicate that an attempt is being made to recapture memorable aspects of Fear Factory‘s most commercially successful era. In fact, one of those posts finds Christian stating of a new drum kit setup, “…I am going to perfect that classic Fear Factory drum sound and take things to a new level.”
Given that Wolbers reconnected with ex-Fear Factory vocalist Burton C. Bell this past January, some have been left hoping that Wolbers won’t be the only former member of Fear Factory involved in this project.
