The lengthy gestation period for the next full-length offering from Atlanta, GA-based sludgy prog metal faction Mastodon continues. Drummer/vocalist Brann Dailor recently spoke with Metal Hammer, weighing in on what the group have been cooking up so far for their follow-up to 2021’s “Hushed And Grim“.

Dailor informed the publication that the record will once again revolve around a concept, with Dailor commenting that a “supernatural horror” story he has been working on will serve as the basis. The group have of course tackled numerous heady concepts in the past, including astral projecting paraplegics, ominous desert wanders and more serving as vivid allegories for the suicide of family members and the cancer battles of loved ones. As for what this new outing will sound like musically, he offered:

“[The songs are] all over the place. I hear some punk rock in there, but then I hear some insane prog and I hear the heaviest version of ourselves poking its head out again.”

Dailor also had more good news for fans of group, confirming that the record will arrive before the year’s end. He stated, “I don’t see a world in which it does not come out in 2025.”
