Thrash metal’s reigning kings in Metallica staged their annual ‘Helping Hands Concert & Auction‘ last night, December 13th, at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles, CA. That event raises funds for the band’s own charitable foundation All Within My Hands.
Outside of their own headlining set, last night’s concert also boasted performances from Van Halen veterans Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony, guitar hero Joe Satriani and drummer Kenny Aronoff (ex-Lynyrd Skynyrd, etc.) String duo SistaStrings were a part of the lineup as well, joining Metallica onstage.
Last night’s set was split between acoustic and electric sections and found Metallica augmenting their acoustic lineup with Avi Vinocur of Goodnight, Texas and Henry Salvia of the Flying Salvias. Elsewhere, Jeff Ament, bassist/vocalist for grunge legends Pearl Jam, made a surprise appearance during the electrified portion of Metallica‘s set.
The overall setlist featured several live rarities, some new song arrangements and even the live debut of a Bachman-Turner Overdrive cover. Here’s what was performed according to fans who attended.
