Primus Holding Open Auditions For Their New Drummer

The search is officially underway to fill the currently vacant spot behind the drum kit in multi-platinum alternative metal outfit Primus. Given the chops of the last man to hold that role, Tim “Herb” Alexander, there’s an obviously high bar to meet in order to be able to score the gig.

These open auditions to join the band came about after Alexander once again chose to exit the group last month. A statement shared by Primus today, November 18th, reads:

“We are currently taking submissions from all points in the universe for the position of Primus drummer/percussionist.

Seeking a well-mannered, affable individual with original sensibility and aesthetic, possessing a desire to open new doors in the creative world.

Flashy chops are wonderful, but groove, pocket, and the ability to listen, react, and contribute to the musical conversation is a must.
Submit resume and a recent video performance to [email protected].”

While Tool drummer Danny Carey has volunteered his services behind the kit during the band’s appearance at Tool‘s upcoming ‘Live In The Sand’ festival, whoever does land the job will be up on deck in the spring.

That run should be a challenging endeavor on its own, as Primus will once again head out with A Perfect Circle and Puscifer, for another leg of shows celebrating Maynard James Keenan (vocalist for Tool, as well as the aforementioned two bands) entering his 60s. That nature of that trek has all three bands trading members and performing each others songs throughout the night. Primus‘ touring plans at the moment include:

Colonel Les Claypool’s Fearless Flying Frog Brigade/Primus:
12/30 Oakland, CA – Fox Theater (feat. Limbomaniacs)
12/31 Oakland, CA – Fox Theater (feat. Beanpole)
