A shocking development has emerged in the ongoing murder trial of ex-Mr. Bungle saxophonist, keyboardist, etc. Theobald Brooks “Theo” Lengyel. The multi-instrumentalist was a member of the avant-garde metal group from 1985 through to 1996. Earlier this year, Lengyel was arrested and charged with the murder of his ex-girlfriend Alice “Alyx” Kamakaokalani Herrmann.

KRCR previously cited court records indicating that Lengyel‘s past wife had filing a restraining order against him over a domestic violence incident in 2017, with the couple divorcing.

With the trial against Lengyel already a month underway, a discovery in late September of a recording has caused a shift in the trial. It captures what are thought to be the final moments of a violent physical confrontation between Hermann & Lengyel and was discovered on Hermann‘s phone’s Just Press Record app.

Authorities had reviewed her cellphone prior, however they somehow missed this three-hour recording, which captures a conversation between Lengyel and Herrmann that eventually turned violent, and is thought to have concluded with her murder. A summary of the unsettling details of that recording can be found over at the The Berkeley Scanner.

The discovery of the recording saw the trial temporarily delayed as prosecutors sought to enter this new evidence into the proceedings. According to the aforementioned publication, a request from prosecutors to amend the charges against Lengyel to life without parole in light of the recording was denied for now. The trial was set to continue with the new evidence being introduced to jurors on September 30th.
