Mastodon Members Have Been In The Studio Recently

Back in late 2023, Mastodon guitarist Bill Kelliher proclaimed it was “past time to write a new record“, and it seems the aforementioned Atlanta, GA alternative metal outfit may have done just that.

A video shared by the band’s drummer/vocalist Brann Dailor yesterday, May 30th, found Dailor showing off his mic’d up drum kit in the studio. While Dailor didn’t outright specify what the apparent sessions were for, he did reply directly to a fan who asked if new Mastodon music was cooking, offering, “something like that 😉”.

The apparent sessions have taken place at the band’s own West End Sound, where they’ve recorded material in the past. Whether or not this winds up being new Mastodon, part of a possible “Crack The Skye” 15th anniversary release, or something else entirely remains to be seen.

This summer will find the band looking back at their 2004 effort “Leviathan“, as they are booked to perform it live each night in celebration of its 20th anniversary. To that end, they’ll be out co-headlining alongside Richmond, VA groove metallers Lamb Of God, who will be ringing in the 20th anniversary of their own 2004 opus, the gold-certified “Ashes Of The Wake“. Kerry King, Unearth and Malevolence will be joining them on that trek:
