Rage Against The Machine’s Zack de la Rocha Has Earned A New Gold Record For His Work With Run The Jewels

Rage Against The Machine‘s incendiary lead vocalist (and noted political activist) Zack de la Rocha has secured himself a new gold record. Admittedly industry accolades have seemingly meant little to Zack over the years (he most recently skipped out on the aforementioned band’s Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame induction), but one would certainly his compatriots in this latest honor are a bit more celebratory.

The latest certification from the RIAA for Zack is for his 2014 collaboration with acclaimed rap duo Run The Jewels. Together the trio released the track “Close Your Eyes (And Count To Fuck)” back in 2014, with that song having now hit the gold status in the United States as of yesterday, May 21st.

While memorable, Zack‘s musical output over the years could hardly be described as prolific. Outside of his regular guest features on Run The Jewels albums, the musician has generally kept out of the spotlight, instead focusing on activist causes.

This award is the third gold record for Run The Jewels (who also opened Rage Against The Machine‘s truncated reunion tour,) and the first for Zack since the January 2004 gold certification of Rage Against The Machine‘s 2003 live album, “Live At The Grand Olympic Auditorium“.

A platinum album/single in the United States represents 1,000,000 units, while gold signifies 500,000 units. Outside of traditional physical/digital sales, the certifications factor in digital streams/downloads with 10 permanent track downloads counting as 1 unit and 1500 on-demand audio/video streams from a particular album also counting as as a unit.
