Tom Morello, His Mother & Rage Against The Machine Were Part Of A ‘Jeopardy!’ Question This Week

Tom Morello, noted guitarist for Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave and more, got a mention on the long-running TV game show, ‘Jeopardy!‘, tonight, April 16th. While Morello and his mother Mary were part of the opening question in ‘Lived Past 100’ category, it was Tom‘s multi-platinum rap metal outfit Rage Against The Machine that was the actual answer.

Morello‘s mention of his 100-year-old mother during his acceptance speech for Rage Against The Machine‘s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame last November led to the following question being asked on the show:

Tom Morello‘s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame acceptance speech on this band’s behalf thanked Tom‘s mom, a centenarian teacher & Activist.’

A contestant did manage to correctly answer it. Morello himself revealed it was a proud moment for him and his mother to be featured on the show, as they both regularly watch it. In addition to her involvement in various activist causes, Mary also founded Parents For Rock And Rap back in 1987.

That anti-censorship campaign served as a counterpoint to the the heavy censorship seeking to be brought forward by the Parents Music Resource Center. Various metal and hard rock artists, including AC/DC, Mötley Crüe, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Venom and more drew the ire of that latter committee, which sought to censor lyrical content that they had deemed objectionable.
