Today Is The Day’s Steve Austin Goes Outlaw Country, Debuts “So Far Gone”

Steve Austin of noise rock/post-metal outfit Today Is The Day, is going outlaw country with his new venture. His first show for that project will be held this Saturday, March 16th at the Elks Lodge in Bangor, ME. Austin, who will be pursuing that project under his own name, began work on it amid the pandemic. He is gearing up for the eventual release of his debut album in the genre, having christened it “Marked Cards And Loaded Dice“.

Austin commented:

“I started writing these songs as a tribute to my father, Tillman Austin. He taught me how to play music and write songs when I was just a kid. He was an amazing country music singer/songwriter that toured during the 1950’s.

He and I would play for hours, doing all the classic real country songs. I grew up with the songs of my dad, Merle Haggard, The Outlaws, and all the greats that made their mark on country and bluegrass. This album is a tribute to my father, Tillman Austin, and all my Austin family in Chestnut Mound, Tennessee.”

A video for the track “So Far Gone” from the record can be found below. Austin is currently joined in the outfit by drummer Ben Chapman, bassist DJ Cox and guitarist/vocalist Ryan Carter.
