Watch Billy Joel’s Drummer Liberty DeVitto Come Up With His Own Parts For Deftones’ “My Own Summer (Shove It)”

Drumeo put veteran drummer Liberatori “Liberty” DeVitto in the hot seat on their latest drumming challenge. The 73-year-old percussionist notably served as the drummer for diamond-certified singer/songwriter Billy Joel for a lengthy tenure that began in the mid-1970s.

The premise of this series of videos from Drumeo involves a drummer being introduced to a song they’ve never heard before and then being challenged to come up with their own parts for it on the spot. The catch is that the version of the song they hear has had the percussion removed from it, which often leads to some interesting results.

The song in question this time around was Deftones‘ “My Own Summer (Shove It)“, the lead single from their platinum-certified 1997 sophomore album, “Around The Fur“.
