Bad Omens & Poppy Debut “V.A.N.” Music Video, Announce Livestream Performances

Bad Omens and Poppy have released their collaborative new single “V.A.N.“. The two artists previously began teasing that offering several days ago. Bad Omens vocalist Noah Sebastian wrote and produced the track, which is expected to appear on Bad Omens‘ forthcoming “Concrete Jungle” soundtrack. The ‘Concrete Jungle‘ universe will be fleshed out in the upcoming Bad Omens comic book series of the same name, you can find out more on that via Sumerian Comics.

According to a press release:

V.A.N‘ is an industrial metal masterpiece about an artificial intelligence entity set out on a course to destroy humanity. The track immediately captivates the listener with Bad Omens’ hypnotic production and Poppy‘s angelic, whispering vocals as she takes on the role of the Concrete Jungle Universe AI character ‘V.A.N’. It then shock-transitions into a powerful onslaught of frantic drums, heavy guitars, and Poppy‘s vocals evolving from otherworldly tones to aggro screams.’

Noah Sebastian offered:

“That’s a song that started just with the hook ‘Violence against nature’, and then after saving the project with the acronym and seeing it we realized it could be fun to think of ‘VAN’ as a name. Thus the rabbit hole of ideas began that led us to decide to write lyrics from the perspective of an artificial intelligence gone rogue.”

The hit video game series ‘Portal‘, the film ‘Ex Machina‘ and the series ‘Stranger Things‘ were listed as inspiration for the accompanying short film for the track, which was co-written by Sebastian, Poppy and Garrett Nicholson. The latter two co-directed that visual accompaniment.

The song’s first live performance will take place amid Bad Omens and Poppy‘s impending European tour together. The back to back shows planned for January 28th and 29th at the Palladium in Cologne, Germany will be livestreamed across the internet through
