Tom Morello Makes First Comments Since Rage Against The Machine’s Latest Breakup

Given the clarity of recent events, it seems that the writing may have been on the wall for the fate of Rage Against The Machine over a month ago. Earlier this week the band’s drummer Brad Wilk delivered the somewhat shocking news that the acclaimed group “will not be touring or playing live again.” Many fans had held out hope that all of the originally booked dates of the pioneering rap rock stars’ latest reunion run would at least be seen to completion at some point in the future.

However, after canceling their future live plans in October of 2022 due to an injury suffered by their vocalist Zack de la Rocha amid the first leg of that trek, the remaining legs of that run have since officially been scrapped entirely.

This past November saw the multi-platinum Los Angeles, CA-based outfit inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, a ceremony which only the band’s guitarist Tom Morello attended and took part in. During his acceptance speech, Morello explained his bandmates absence that night as follows:

“Like most bands, we have differing perspectives on a lot of things, including about being inducted into the Rock Hall. My perspective, is that tonight is a great opportunity to celebrate the music and the mission of the band; to celebrate with the fifth member of the band, and that is Rage Against The Machine‘s incredible fans. You’re the reason we are here. And the best way to celebrate this music is for you to carry on that mission and that message.”

Making his first comments since Wilk‘s announcement earlier this week, Morello took to reposting video footage of his acceptance speech that night, sharing the closing statement that he quoted from his mother: “History, like music, is not something that “happens”. It’s something you MAKE”

In that same acceptance speech, Morello seemingly commented on the status of Rage, offering, “…Don’t wait for us. Rage is not here, but you are. The job we set out to do is not over. Now you’re the ones that must testify.”
