Metallica's Lars Ulrich

Metallica’s James Hetfield Says Lars Ulrich Only Began Rehearsing For The Band’s Shows Around 4-5 Years Ago

There’s a vocal contingent of people out there who often voice their opinion that Metallica‘s drummer Lars Ulrich is the weakest link of the band. Outside of the obvious snare choices made on the band’s infamous 2003 album “St. Anger“, his live performances have frequently drawn criticism.

Perhaps lending some credence to those concerns, his long-time bandmate, Metallica vocalist/guitarist James Hetfield, revealed that Ulrich avoided rehearsing with the band up until somewhat recently. Appearing on the latest episode of ‘The Metallica Report‘, Hetfield commented:

“An interesting fact: Lars never rehearsed ever until — I don’t know — I’d say maybe four or five years ago, he started really getting into rehearsing. And now he’ll — I mean, he’ll rehearse four days for a two-hour set, which is what he needs to do, which is awesome.”

The aforementioned comments were made around this past weekend’s “Power Trip‘ festival, which saw Metallica headline the closing night.
