(hed)p.e. are streaming their brand new single “Detox” online. The song is the title track of the G-punk’s fourteenth studio album. That outing is being lined up a release in in early 2024 on Suburban Noize.
Vocalist Jared Gomes previously commented of the album and the inspiration for its title:
“”The record is titled Detox because I found myself in a pool of red wine and cartridges as a result of the pandemic.
Trying to finish the record was near impossible with all these chemicals floating through my brain. I had to be honest with myself. It was either COVID brain damage or the bottle of red wine per day.
So I decided to detox from everything in order to finish the record and it turned out to be something I’m truly proud of.”
He also weighed in on this new video for it, which is part of an animated saga the band intend to weave through various chapters. That saga ‘DETOX: Planet Earth‘ features artwork from Jim ‘Taz’ Evans and animation from Bonez. Gomes offered:
“This record meant so much to HED pe as we return to our roots. We just couldn’t do the standard music video thing. They have all become so boring and the same. So for our new record, we took the extra time to create something new that no one has ever done before.
We sat down with an underground writer who had written a cool post-apocalyptic story filled with references to HED and this crazy world we are currently in. The idea was to create a new piece of art using pre-existing elements blended together to make something new.
It was a crazy chance to take but we are proud to say it’s BAD ASS!!! A full-length animated movie entitled DETOX PLANET EARTH is the result and chapter 1 launches Friday!!!!!”
The storyline for this video series was written years ago by Kevin Zinger of Suburban Noize/Regime. In an official press release, Gomes further stated of the record:
“The ‘DETOX‘ album embarks on a spiritual journey from a state of chemical enslavement to self-liberation, and then, ironically, back again. I composed this from an intimately personal standpoint, as I grappled with addiction throughout my life.
On this album, I’m unapologetically candid, addressing topics such as sexuality, substance use, and a hardcore lifestyle. I’ve incorporated more rap elements, and the music is notably heavier and thrash-oriented. I discovered the inspiration to delve into some gritty subjects.
Balancing parenthood brings a unique challenge to finding ‘alone’ time with one’s spouse, akin to a covert mission that must be accomplished at all costs! This album truly grants the audience what they’ve longed for, without compromising artistic integrity.”
