James “Munky” Shaffer, one-half of the guitar duo powering nü-metal pioneers Korn, has unveiled his new side project Venera. That venture finds him joining forces with composer/filmmaker Chris Hunt.
The pair have signed a deal with Ipecac Recordings and are on track to release their self-titled debut album on October 13th. The official reveal of the project follows a blind launch of the song “Swarm” late last month.
Emerging online in conjunction with today’s big reveal is a new single titled “Hologram“, which sports a guest appearance from Arezo “Rizz” Khanjani of VOWWS. A joint statement issued by the band on this new track reads as follows:
“‘Hologram‘ emerged quickly from our first session together. A nearly unchanging drum machine pattern nested in warbling guitars. We don’t interact much with holograms but they seem to offer an image of an alluring emptiness and light, which resonates well with the universe we are driven to explore.”
Outside of Rizz, this self-produced record will also feature several other guest spots. Alain Johannes guests on the track “Triangle” and HEALTH‘s Jake Duzsik appears on “Ochre“. Drummer Deantoni Parks (ex-The Mars Volta, etc.) can be heard on “Erosion” and “Disintegration“.
