J.D. Cronise, former vocalist/guitarist for Texan stoner metal collective The Sword, recently elaborated on multi-platinum industrial/groove metal icon Rob Zombie allegedly ripping off one of the band’s past tracks. The song in question was “Virgin Witch” from Rob Zombie‘s 2010 effort, “Hellbilly Deluxe 2“.
That track featured parts so similar to that of The Sword‘s signature 2006 track “Freya“, that Cronise‘s management at the time were able to negotiate that Cronise be given a co-writing credit on it. That credit was awarded after the fact, even with Cronise not having been directly involved with the Zombie track.
Speaking via Twitter on the matter earlier today, March 28th, Cronise offered:
Not sure how to feel about this, but I also wasn't sure how to feel when he ripped off our song… https://t.co/pmq8WJlXVT

No but I'm credited as a co-writer because it sounds so much like "Freya". It's weird

It was a shock to us when it came out. Our management at the time sucked and the best they could do was get me a co-writer credit. I've never met rob zombie or John 5
