Ihsahn Debuts New Track “Contorted Monuments” From Upcoming EP

Emperor frontman/guitarist, etc. Ihsahn has a new EP titled “Fascination Street Sessions” on course for a March 24th release. That effort consists of several songs Ihsahn recorded with producer Jens Bogren (Sepultura, Katatonia) at the latter’s Fascination Street Studios in Örebro, Sweden. The effort was made in partnership with the URM Academy‘s online music production educational program.

Drummer Tobias Ørnes Andersen and keyboardist Øystein Aadland partook in the sessions, with Aadland also contributing to the song “The Observer“. Meanwhile, Katatonia‘s Jonas Renske lent his voice to the featured cover of Kent‘s “Dom Andra“.

Ihsahn commented:

“The idea was to capture high-end recordings of real instruments in great rooms, and we had an amazing setup for drums, guitars, bass, and even a vintage Hammond organ with Leslie, Wurlitzer, Rhodes, etc., recorded through Fender combos and analogue pedals etc.

This was an amazing experience, and very educational, as I love everything related to music production. Both the Fascination Street and URM teams were incredible, and I believe everyone involved had a great time, in spite of 14–16 hour workdays.

I’m very happy with how everything came together and for those interested in the technical aspects of how it was made, there will be a thorough course coming soon at URM Academy.”

A first single by the name of Contorted Monuments has just been issued from that effort and is streaming below. Pre-saves for the EP can be found here.
