Pepper Keenan Admits Down Will Be On The Backburner For A Few Years Amid Pantera Reunion

The ongoing reunion of Pantera, which finds vocalist Phil Anselmo and bassist/vocalist Rex Brown joined by Black Label Society/Ozzy Osbourne, etc. guitarist Zakk Wylde and Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante, has definitely made an impression on the metal world.

But the return of the Texan groove metal legends has also had some consequences for the other irons that members of the group had in the fire. Chiefly among them is southern rock outfit Down, who haven’t put out new music since 2014.

Pepper Keenan (Corrosion Of Conformity), who plays alongside Anselmo in Down, spoke with the Brewtally Speaking Podcast in late November just ahead of Pantera‘s return about that. Amid sharing his positive thoughts on the Pantera reunion, he admitted that it will be at least another year or two before Down get back to work properly as a result of Anselmo‘s Pantera commitments.

Keenan stated:

“I know the Pantera crew, I know everybody like the back of my hand, and Phil sings in Down. On a selfish note, is it going to put Down on the backburner for a year or two? Yeah. Sure. Did they need to get this off their chests and get it out there? Yes. The kids need to hear this? Yes.”
