Reigning thrash metal kings Metallica held their third annual ‘Helping Hands Concert & Auction‘ yesterday (December 16th) at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, CA. As with the past events, the band and special guests took to the stage to raise funds for future use through Metallica‘s own non-profit charity organization, the All Within My Hands Foundation.
The setlist saw the celebrated quartet roll out some surprises, including the live debut of their latest single “Lux Æterna” and a guest appearance from St. Vincent on “Nothing Else Matters“.
The set was split into two portions, with a 5-song acoustic set opening the performance. It notably featured the live debuts of Bay Area heavyweights’ covers of Thin Lizzy‘s “Borderline” and UFO‘s “It’s Killing Me“. The group were joined by Avi Vinocur on mandolin, guest vocals and more through that acoustic portion of the set.
A traditional electric run of songs followed that. Here’s the setlist:
Acoustic:
“Blackened” (‘Blackened 2020‘ version)
“The Unforgiven”
“Borderline” (Thin Lizzy cover)
“It’s Killing Me” (UFO cover)
“Whisky In The Jar” (cover)
Electric:
“The Call Of Ktulu”
“Harvester Of Sorrow”
“Holier Than Thou”
“All Within My Hands” (feat. Avi Vinocur)
“Creeping Death”
“Enter Sandman”
“Lux Æterna”
“Nothing Else Matters” (feat. St. Vincent)
“Seek & Destroy”
As previously reported, the entire performance was livestreamed across the internet. While that official footage has since been restricted, fan-filmed footage of some of the highlights from the set can be found below:
