Unlike many of his peers, Deftones, Crosses (†††), etc. frontman/guitarist Chino Moreno has yet to venture out with a solo album. Given the scenes Deftones travelled in, a solo record almost seems like a rite of passage at this point. Be it System Of A Down‘s Serj Tankian, Korn‘s Jonathan Davis, Incubus‘ Brandon Boyd, or even fellow Sacramento native Jonah Matranga of Far fame, there’s certainly been no shortage of extracurricular output.
Moreno has of course kept busy outside of Deftones throughout the years, having also been involved with Team Sleep and Palms. He’s also stretched his legs on a variety of guest spots too, most recently lending his talents to Polyphia‘s “Bloodbath“.
In a recent discussion with Kerrang! primarily centered around the new Crosses (†††) EP “PERMANENT.RADIANT” (out December 09th), Moreno revealed that he still has “no interest” in branching out entirely on his own. He said of that:
“It’s not that fun to make music for myself. I hate to say it, but I don’t think I’m that interesting as to where I have a million things I need to share with the world. I don’t. The best way to make music is to push ideas across the table and, next thing you know, you’re staring at a song.”
