ZZ Top’s Elwood Francis Has Smoothed Things Over With Jared Dines After Playing An Apparent Bootleg Version Of His 18-String Bass Onstage


Diamond-certified bluesy hard rock legends ZZ Top have had some impressive guitar licks over the years, but their bass lines aren’t known to be particularly demanding. Thus, when the group’s most recent addition, bassist/vocalist Elwood Francis, recently showed up onstage with a 17-string bass in Huntsville, AL earlier this month, it made some headlines for the absurdity of the situation.

It also stirred up some controversy, when it was shown that the instrument in question was alleged to be an apparent knockoff of a custom 18-string bass constructed for YouTuber/musician Jared Dines. The latter took to the internet to comment about the situation, offering:
