Red Hot Chili Peppers Once Again Top The Billboard 200 With “Return Of The Dream Canteen”

The Red Hot Chili Peppers have scored their second #1 on the Billboard 200 this year. The group’s double album “Return Of The Dream Canteen” has opened at the top position of that chart, shifting 63,000 equivalent album units. Of those sales, 56,000 were attributed to album sales, while streaming equivalent album units comprised 7,000.

The funk rock icons previously topped the same chart this past April for the first of their reunion albums with guitarist/vocalist John Frusciante. That record, “Unlimited Love“, managed to move an impressive 97,500 equivalent album units in the United States in the first week alone.

Billboard.com note that the last time a rock band was able to pull off back to back #1’s on the Billboard 200 in the same year took place in 2005, when System Of A Down released “Mezmerize” and “Hypnotize“. Interestingly, all four of the aforementioned albums were produced by Rick Rubin (Slayer, Johnny Cash).
