Dave Mustaine Of Megadeth

Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine Hopes To One Day Write With Metallica’s James Hetfield Again: “I Think The World Really Does Want Us To Do That”

While decades of bitter animosity ensued in the time since they last properly collaborated together, Megadeth vocalist/guitarist Dave Mustaine is hopeful to one day write again with his former Metallica bandmate James Hetfield. Any metalhead worth their salt is likely well aware that Metallica ousted Mustaine from their lineup back in 1983, amid Mustaine‘s well-publicized struggles with substance abuse.

While Mustaine, Hetfield & Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich have since taken steps to bury the hatchet (including an emotional meeting in Metallica‘s ‘Some Kind Of Monster‘ documentary), there’s still been lingering signs of tension over the years.

A dispute with Mustaine over songwriting credits saw Metallica shelf their “No Life ‘Til Leather” set plans back in 2017. However, more recently, Mustaine revealed that he has privately reached out to Hetfield to offer support amid some vulnerability and self-doubt Hetfield was experiencing.

Speaking recently with VWMusic, the aforementioned Megadeth mastermind revealed that he hopes to one day reunite in the studio with Hetfield to work on new music together, offering:

“I have been secretly hoping there’d be a day where James [Hetfield] and I can write together again. I think the world really does want us to do that, and I think there is a pretty good possibility of it happening down the line. I do think that it’s possible that one day James is going to come around and that he and I are going to be able to do something together again. I guess that’s one of the things that has always kept me pushing forward. I think it’d be good for Megadeth, and it could be great for Metallica too.”
