Today’s (August 08th) closing ceremony of the ‘Commonwealth Games‘ in Birmingham, England saw the reunion of some hometown heroes. Former Black Sabbath bandmates Ozzy Osbourne and guitarist Tony Iommi returned to the stage for a performance of their aforementioned band’s classic track “Paranoid“. Adam Wakeman assisted on bass, while Tommy Clufetos once again took on the drumming duties for this live appearance.
Last month saw Iommi himself open the ceremonies for the aforementioned games as part of a joint performance with saxophonist Soweto Kinch. Footage of his new pairing with Osbourne from the closing ceremony has been made available online below. While Black Sabbath hung it up in 2017 following the conclusion of their farewell tour, Osbourne and Iommi are by no means done with each other.
The duo teamed up on a pair of tracks from Osbourne‘s upcoming thirteenth studio album “Patient Number 9“. In addition to the recently debuted “Degradation Rules“, Iommi also lent his talents to the song “No Escape From Now“. That record is slated for a September 09th release.
As you can see in the footage below, Osbourne was remarkably more animated, having been recovering from a major surgery that took place on June 13th.
