NYC noise rockers Unsane will be putting out a remastered reissue of their 1991 self-titled album on September 23rd through Lamb Unlimited. This remastered edition will arrive on both vinyl and CD formats. Founding vocalist/guitarist Chris Spencer is onboard with this reissue and reflected on the time period when the band originally planned to release the album via Circuit Records (they would later sign with Matador Records for its release.)
“We thought it was our big break as Circuit was putting out up and coming bands like Cop Shoot Cop and Surgery. We gave the tapes to Ernie, the guy that ran Circuit, and following our approval of the test pressings Ernie disappeared. We were soon to learn that Ernie had a massive cocaine habit and had owed some drug dealers a shit ton of money. At the time, this was a huge letdown.”

A fateful show at CBGB’s with Sonic Youth would prove to be the jolt the band’s career needed however, with Spencer commenting of that:
“We got offered a show playing CBGB’s with Sonic Youth, although we were playing the graveyard slot which mean that we were to play after them. Sonic Youth played a crazy, super-long set and then we were to play. Almost everyone had left as it was 2:30 in the morning, but of the 10 or 12 people that were, Gerard Cosloy from Matador had stayed. He saw us play and offered us a deal that night.”
Pre-orders for this reissue have been launched at Bandcamp. A stream of the remastered version of the opening track “Organ Donor” is available below.
