After a lengthy gestation period necessitated by Dave Mustaine‘s successful cancer treatments, a global pandemic and an ousted bassist, thrash metal legends Megadeth have unveiled the first single from their long-awaited new album “The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead!“. They’ve also announced a September 02nd release date via UMe for that record, which will be their sixteenth to date.
Several formats will be made available, including a limited edition vinyl pressing which will sport a bonus 7″ featuring the album’s first single “We’ll Be Back” and a b-side live performance of “The Conjuring“. A short film by the name of “Well Be Back: Chapter I” has been released for this first track to emerge from this new opus and it serves as the initial entry of a trilogy of interconnected videos set to released along the album cycle.
The band’s vocalist/guitarist Dave Mustaine co-produced “The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead!” alongside Chris Rakestraw (Danzig, Parkway Drive). Steve DiGiorgio of Testament was brought in to re-record the bass parts for the effort after the band parted ways with David Ellefson following his sex video scandal back in May of 2021.
Megadeth alumni James LoMenzo has since rejoined the band as a permanent replacement for Ellefson. In addition to a pair of covers, “The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead!” also boasts a pair of guests in the form of musician/actor Ice-T of Body Count, etc. fame and Sammy Hagar.
