Modern prog rock outfit Coheed And Cambria‘s forthcoming tenth studio album “Vaxis – Act II: A Window Of The Waking Mind” will feature some unconventional instrumental application. In a newly published feature over at Guitar World, it was revealed that the band’s guitarist Travis Stever employed one of Deftones guitarist Stephen Carpenter‘s signature ESP 8-string guitars on a pair of tracks.
Those expecting to hear some detuned crunchy riffs similar to that of Carpenter may be in for a surprise though. According to Coheed And Cambria vocalist/guitarist, etc. Claudio Sanchez, the album’s co-producer Zakk Cervini was taken aback by the implementation of the 8-string instrument, with Sanchez stating, “[Cervini] found [those songs] so interesting because they were pop tunes utilizing this heavy metal instrument.”
According to the aforementioned Guitar World piece, Stever employed that axe on the tracks “Love Murder One” and “Bad Man“. You can hear both of those songs for yourself later this month when “Vaxis – Act II: A Window Of The Waking Mind” arrives on June 24th.
