One Dead, Four Injured Following Shooting At Crawling Through Tartarus Concert In San Bernardino, CA

A death metal concert at the Marquis Lounge in San Bernardino, CA turned deadly this past weekend. The violence is said to have broken out during a set by Los Angeles, CA death metal band Crawling Through Tartarus this past Saturday night (April 23rd,) with 32-year-old James Vincent Dickson pronounced dead at the scene.

Four others were said to have been injured by gunfire during the incident, one of whom was vocalist Matt Holzboog of the aforementioned band. Three of those victims were transported to local area hospitals, while a fourth self-transported.

According to his bandmate, drummer Zander Dixon, Holzboog was hit by two bullets and transported to hospital to undergo surgery.

An update since shared on Facebook by Holzboog‘s wife reads:

“Update on Matthew, I just got off the phone with the doctor. He had his second surgery this morning that lasted 3 hours, and it went really well. There was talk about needing a third surgery in the future, but not during this hospital stay. I asked if there was any idea of when I could bring him home and he said if not by the end of the week then next week he’ll be home. The doctor told me how fast everyone reacted to help Matthew made a huge difference on him not losing his leg Saturday night.

The doctor said he came very close. So huge thank you to Zander Dixon for reacting so fast and using your belt as a tourniquet. The doctor wanted me to tell you that saved his life by doing that because his artery was just pumping away. I owe you huge! Because of your quick thinking, my children will be able to see their father by next week.”

Per local news media reports filed this earlier this week, a police investigation into the matter continues with no immediate suspect or motive having been identified.
