Dave Grohl In Studio 666

Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl Planning To Release An Entire New Thrash Metal Album In Conjunction With ‘Studio 666’ Film

As it turns out, the recent thrash/death metal-inspired track penned by the Foo Fighters frontman/guitarist Dave Grohl for the band’s upcoming new horror-comedy ‘Studio 666‘ was just the tip of the iceberg. Earlier this week the multi-platinum musician issued a new song titled “March Of The Insane” under the moniker of Dream Widow—a fictional metal band whose music plays a key role in unleashing the mayhem in the aforementioned film.

Now comes word that a whole album from that fictional band is in the works. Envisioned as the record Dream Widow were working on in the studio in the film before meeting an untimely end, Grohl recently told of it:

“It will be the lost album. It’ll be the album they [Dream Widow] were making before [Dream Widow‘s singer] fucking killed the entire band.”

As of press time for the interview, Grohl was still pushing ahead with it for a release in time for the film’s February 25th premiere date, offering, “I mean, I work fast, but fuck, this deadline is going to kill me. Yes, I’ll get it out for the movie. By February 25th, there will be a Dream Widow record.”

The particulars for that record, including who joined him for the sessions, and more, have yet to be revealed. But as Grohl told the aforementioned publication, the album is inspired heavily by his youth spent growing up as “a fucking Eighties thrash metal kid.” He elaborated:

“I have my favorites. You’ll hear a lot of those influences in ‘Lacrimus dei Ebrius‘ [a 13-minute metal epic performed in the film] because for that song, I put maybe four or five of these sections together in this big, long thing. Some of it sounds like Trouble; some of it sounds like Corrosion Of Conformity; some of it has a Kyuss vibe.”

You can hear the first single from the project, “March Of The Insane“, below. While you’re at it, the Foo Fighters guested on last night’s (February 16th) episode of ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!‘ to discuss their new film, you can watch that footage below as well,
