Mastodon’s Brann Dailor To Release His Book Of Clown Illustrations ‘101 Clowns Of The Coronavirus’

Mastodon drummer/vocalist Brann Dailor stuck to a daily habit during for 101 days straight during the COVID-19 pandemic downtime afforded to him in 2020. That habit saw him illustrating different clowns in various situations. Those illustrations are now set to be published in partnership with Revolver as ‘101 Clowns Of The Coronavirus‘.

Dailor decided to send each of his creations to different people throughout that time period, with some of the famous recipients having provided commentary on Dailor‘s offerings for this book. Among those to do so are Metallica‘s Lars Ulrich, Queens Of The Stone Age‘s Josh Homme, DeftonesChino Moreno, Lamb Of God‘s Randy Blythe and more.

Dailor commented of his illustrative habit:

“The clowns kept me from spiraling out during all the uncertainty. They kept me from sinking into a deep depression or experiencing crippling anxiety. The clowns were perfect for that — even the dark ones.”

He further offered via the foreword of the book:

“I’d get up every day and have my glass of water, two tangerines and a cup of coffee. Then I’d crack the sketchbook open. In my notes on my phone, I probably had 10 or 15 clown ideas I could pull from if I hadn’t thought of something the night before. The thing that I came to find out is that anything is clown-able. The clown is such an icon that you can turn anything into a clown.”
