NOFX Drop Off 2021 ‘Punk Rock Bowling’ Festival Following “Hate Messages And Threats”

NOFX have announced that they will no longer be headlining day one of this year’s ‘Punk Rock Bowling‘ festival in Las Vegas, NV. It would appear that the recent announcement that the group had been booked to return to the festival and the city of Las Vegas, NV this fall proved to be too controversial.

During the band’s performance at the 2018 edition of the ‘Punk Rock Bowling‘ festival, they made jokes onstage about the then months-old mass shooting at the ‘Route 91 Harvest Festival‘ in Las Vegas, NV. That October 2017 shooting saw an armed gunman kill 58 people attending the aforementioned country music festival, while 800 others were injured.

In May of 2018, the following onstage exchange took place during NOFX‘s set at the ‘Punk Rock Bowl‘ Festival:

Frontman/guitarist Fat Mike: “We played a song about Muslims and we didn’t get shot. Alright.”

Guitarist Eric Melvin added: “I guess you only get shot in Vegas if you are in a country band.”

Fat Mike responded: “You know that, sucked but at least they were country fans and not punk rock fans.”

NOFX would later issue issue an apology for their comments. Fat Mike would address the matter again weeks later, stating that the group had been “banned in our own country” for their actions that night.

Since being announced for the 2021 ‘Punk Rock Bowling‘ festival last week, many have been vocal about their unhappiness over NOFX intending to return to Las Vegas for their first show since the aforementioned incident. In a newly issued statement, it has been revealed that Descendents will now take NOFX‘s spot on the bill.

Fat Mike said of the matter:

“I’ve been playing and bowling at ‘Punk Rock Bowling‘ since the very first one when there were only 22 teams. PRB is my favorite time of the year. Like so many of you, I not only get to see my favorite bands, but I also get to see my punk friends from high school. This event is my reunion, it’s my convention, and it’s my church…. I was so fucking excited to play it this year….. but sadly we are not going to.

NOFX had a meeting this week and decided we shouldn’t play out of respect that wounds are still healing. There has been a lot of hate messages and threats because we are on the bill, It just feels wrong. We know we said shitty things that caused it, so we get it. Sorry to everyone that wanted to see us. It’ll have to be in a different city.

Hopefully we can see you all in Vegas when the time’s right. But not Everything Sucks, I talked to Milo yesterday…. And he’s comin! Decendents are taking our spot! It’s pretty fucking cool that we are being replaced by a better band! I wish I could be there to see ’em.

Actually very sincere,
Fat Mike and NOFX
