As I Lay Dying‘s Tim Lambesis is facing a lawsuit from a woman who claims to have been injured in the bonfire mishap he himself was burned in late last year. On December 12th of last year, Lambesis suffered burns to 25% of his body in the mishap, with his right hand, ribs, armpit, calf, left arm, and both legs among the affected parts of his body. In addition to the burns and a surgery to help heal them, he suffered nerve damage as well. Lambesis would later describe the immediate recovery process from his burns as “the most painful experience of my life“.
According to FOX5, a woman who was attendance at said bonfire, Vivienne Barcena, filed suit against Lambesis last week in a San Diego Superior Court. She claims that Lambesis squirted an accelerate into the fire pit during that December 12th gathering, which caused the fire “explode out”, burning her arm, back and mid-section.
Lambesis himself previously described the incident differently, offering: “The entire gas cap fell off when trying to use a little from the trickle tip to get a bonfire started. Gas got all over my clothes and I ended up burning 25% of my body.”
Barcena claims to have been left scarred by her subsequent burns. She is said to have tagged along with one of her friends to the gathering. Lambesis parents are also named as defendants in the suit.
Last week Lambesis himself discussed being diagnosed with COVID-19 earlier this year. He remains a controversial figure in the metal scene, having served time in prison for attempting to have hired a hitman to kill his wife back in 2013.
He was released on parole in late 2016 and has since gone on to complete the training to become an addition treatment counselor outside of his musical pursuits.
