Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler has confirmed that the recently unearthed track “Slapback” thought to be from the band’s Ronnie James Dio-fronted era is indeed genuine. That song was recently shared by estate of the band’s late keyboardist, bassist, etc. Geoff Nicholls. During its initial upload, it was unclear if it was a genuine Black Sabbath track or something else.

Asked recently about the song this week on SiriusXM‘s ‘Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk‘, Butler stated:

“Yeah, that was one of the songs that we did before I left. It’s probably the reason I did leave [Laughs]. It was just one of those songs that didn’t make the grade.”

When asked if he played bass on it, he responded:

“Yeah, that was right before I left. It was just a one-off thing. We just jammed it and didn’t think anything more of it. It didn’t really work.”
