The Smashing Pumpkins Have Begun Tracking Their 33-Song Rock Opera

The Smashing Pumpkins‘ prolific streak continues with the band officially in the studio once again. The band’s frontman Billy Corgan had the following update to share this week on the commencement of their latest sessions:

The 33-song effort he mentioned above is a self-described ‘rock opera’, which is expected to complete the trilogy that began with their 10x multi-platinum album “Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness” and continued with “Machina/The Machines Of God“. Corgan previously said of it:

It’s kind of a rock opera and it’s being written from the ground up as that. We already have 33 of the songs and we’re hard at work, I’ve been in the studio right now with Jimmy [Chamberlain] working out the drum stuff.”

“…We feel like in many ways this completes the circle on everything we started and weren’t able to finish at that time, so we’re very excited about that.”
