Jon Schaffer Allegedly Pictured At U.S. Capitol RiotMetropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia

Government Lawyers Seek To Deny Iced Earth Guitarist Jon Schaffer Bail For U.S. Capitol Riot-Related Arrest

According to several media reports, Iced Earth guitarist Jon Schaffer remains in police custody for his involvement in the U.S. Capitol Building riot earlier this month. Schaffer turned himself into authorities this past Sunday after being sought by both Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia and the FBI after being photographed among those who breached the building itself.

Since his arrest, surveillance footage of Schaffer holding what appears to be bear spray has been circulated by the U.S. Department Of Justice. The FBI allege that Schaffer used said bear spray on police during the riot and he is currently facing the following six charges:

  • 1) Knowingly Entering or Remaining in any Restricted Building or Grounds Without Lawful Authority
  • 2) Disrupting the Orderly Conduct of Government Business
  • 3) Knowingly Engaging in an Act of Physical Violence Against any Person or Property in any Restricted Building or Grounds
  • 4) Violent Entry and Disorderly Conduct in a Capitol Building
  • 5) Engaging in an Act of Physical Violence in a Capitol Building
  • 6) Parading, Demonstrating, or Picketing in a Capitol Building

A ‘Statement Of Facts’ regarding Schaffer‘s arrest can be found over at Meanwhile, are now reporting that Government lawyers are asking the judge presiding over the case to not offer bond to Schaffer, who currently remains in custody in the Marion County Jail in Indiana as a federal prisoner. He is expected to stand before the U.S. Magistrate in the coming days to determine whether or not he is eligible for bail.

A previous report filed by The Indianapolis Star suggested that Schaffer may have ties to a militia type group identified as the Oath Keepers, who are characterized as an extremist antigovernment group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. Schaffer has previously seen to be photographed wearing an apparent Oath Keepers ballcap in the past. Several members of that organization are currently facing conspiracy-related charges for their apparent involvement in the riot.

Since word of Schaffer‘s participation in the riot broke, Iced Earth‘s longtime label Century Media have scrubbed the band from their roster on their official website. Also now missing from that label’s website is Schaffer‘s Demons & Wizards side project. Century Media have yet to publicly comment on the matter, though some have taken this as an indication that the label has severed ties with both outfits.

Schaffer‘s Iced Earth bandmates condemned the riots in a statement issued days after the the incident. Meanwhile, an interview conducted last fall at a rally protesting the results of the latest U.S. Presidential election saw Schaffer explain his extremist right-wing views to German media outlet Die Welt. In that video interview, Schaffer stated:

“My name is Jon Schaffer. I’m from Indiana. A group of thugs and criminals hijacked this country a long time ago. Now they’re making their big move, and it’s not gonna happen. And that’s what it is. These are globalists. These are the scum of the earth. These are the criminals that are behind all the fraudulent fee on currency, they’re behind all the wars, they’re behind all the shit.

They’re behind divide-and-conquer tactics, behind the racial divide. It’s all nonsense, it’s all garbage. People need to wake up and snap out of the matrix, because they’re going down. They’ve made the move. They’re messing with the wrong people here—trust me on that. And we needed it to be open like this—open fraud, open theft. Because now we see you, and you’re going down. Mark my words.”

He later continued:

“I think this goes beyond President Trump. President Trump is a populist. He’s not your typical Republican. He’s not establishment. He’s not going out starting wars all over the place, like they do. Which is funny—where are all the Democrats that were anti-war? There’s so much hatred for Trump, it’s just ridiculous. He’s dealing with a criminal mafia that has been in the shadows running the world, frankly, for a very long time.

They wanna destroy all of our sovereignty and bring about global government. We’re not having it. We can still do business together, the countries can still be at peace, but we’re not gonna merge into some globalist, communist system. It will not happen. There will be a lot of blood shed, if it comes down to that—trust me. The American people will not go for that bullshit once they understand what’s actually happening. So, that’s where we’re at. Nobody wants this, but they’re pushing us to a point where we have no choice.”
