Persons Of Interest In U.S. Capitol Riots

Iced Earth’s Jon Schaffer Has Yet To Be Charged Following Involvement In U.S. Capitol Riot

According to a report filed by The Indianapolis Star, Iced Earth guitarist Jon Schaffer has yet to be charged in connection with his participation in the January 06th U.S. Capitol Building riot. Schaffter is a resident of Indiana and was seen as a person of interest in a photograph circulated by both the FBI‘s Washington Field Office and the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia (see above) last week.

Schaffer was shown in the photograph to have been one of those who is thought to have breached the actual building itself. The Indianapolis Star has since been unable to find any federal crime charges having been laid against Schaffer, while an FBI spokeswoman in the Indianapolis field office provided the publication with the following statement:

“Like FBI field offices across the country, FBI Indianapolis is receiving tips regarding Hoosiers who may have been at the Capitol building in Washington, DC Jan. 6. Any subjects that are arrested/indicted will be prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office in Washington, DC.”

It is unclear whether or not Schaffer may be evading authorities or they have yet to catch up to him. The aforementioned publication noted that in the photograph Schaffer was seen to be wearing an ‘Oath Keepers’ ballcap, which has been characterized as an extremist antigovernment group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

An interview conducted several months prior to the riot saw Schaffer publicly express his conspiracy theory beliefs and vehement opposition to the results of the latest U.S. presidential election. In the days since, his bandmates in Iced Earth distanced themselves from the riot.
