Cynic's Sean Malone

Cynic Bassist Sean Malone Has Passed Away

Cynic bassist Sean Malone has passed away at the age of 50. The band’s frontman/guitarist Paul Masvidal broke the sad news tonight, December 09th, offering the following tribute:

“I learned today that Sean Malone has died. I am numb and grief stricken. He had a brilliant mind, a gracious heart and was one of the greatest musicians I’ve ever encountered. I know that this is a shocking loss for so many fans whose lives he touched with his artistry, as it is for me. Please keep him in your thoughts and listen to his playing to celebrate his life.”

Malone held several tenures in Cynic throughout their career and was a member from 2012 up until his death, the cause of which was not revealed. A prolific studio bassist, he appeared on dozens of albums, while also penning several instructional bass-related books. Tragically he is the second member of Cynic lineage to pass this year with the band’s former drummer Sean Reinert having died this past January.
