System Of A Down drummer John Dolmayan previously found success on crowdfunding with his These Grey Men covers album, raising $55,215 for the project several years ago before ultimately releasing the album this past February.

Now he has once again turned to the platform to help raise funds for his upcoming comic book series, ‘Ascencia‘. A seemingly life-long comic collector, Dolmayan also runs a comic shop of his own, Torpedo Comics, in Las Vegas, NV.

A $15,000 USD goal was set for the campaign and has already been met as of press time. Those looking to help further fund this new project can do so over at this locationDolmayan commented of the project:

“I’m proud to announce the premiere issue of my ongoing comic book series Ascencia. Drumming has always been an incredible passion of mine, and I would like to share another lifelong passion: storytelling. Being a collector (and massive fan) of comic books, I thought it fitting that my first published work be in the medium that has brought me so much joy.

Together with artist Tony Parker, I’m launching a Kickstarter to introduce you to the world we’ve created, and to join us on the journey of discovery as the story unfolds. A portion of all proceeds will be donated to the Armenia Fund and other worthy organizations benefitting those in need.”

Dolmayan has been writing the series, while Tony Parker has been taking on the art. Several artists have been lined up to work on the covers for the series, including Jim Lee, Simon Bisley and Ben Oliver. More details can be found over at Kickstarter.com.
