Trent Reznor Of Nine Inch Nails

Nine Inch Nails’ “Hurt” To Be Explored In Upcoming Episode Of Netflix’s ‘Song Exploder’

Nine Inch Nails‘ “Hurt” will be the focus of a forthcoming episode of the Netflix series, ‘Song Exploder‘. That documentary spawned from the podcast of the same name and will find host and executive producer Hrishikesh Hirway going through the story and history of the song, with input from Reznor himself.

Hurt” originally saw a release on Nine Inch Nails‘ acclaimed 4x multi-platinum album “The Downward Spiral“. It would however find a new life in 2002 when country legend Johnny Cash covered it, landing a gold record for his rendition and a platinum record for the covers album that featured it, “American Iv: The Man Comes Around“.

Speaking of a past interview with Reznor, Hirway stated:

“I first interviewed Trent Reznor for a Nine Inch Nails episode of the podcast back in 2017, and afterwards, as I was packing up my microphone and laptop, he asked me, ‘Have you ever thought about making this into a TV show?’ It was just a glimmer of an idea back then.

I’m so excited that it’s come to life, and I get to share four more episodes of the series with these beloved artists. They’re all so different from one another in terms of sound and background, and I can’t wait for people to see and hear their stories, and the unique path they each took to create these songs.”

Other songs set to be explored in the upcoming new ‘Song Exploder‘ episodes include:

Dua Lipa – “Love Again
The Killers – “When You Were Young
Natalia Lafourcade – “Hasta La Raíz

The new episodes are expected to premiere globally on December 15th, 2020. If you’d like to prep yourself, Reznor‘s 2017 appearance on the podcast version of the program can be found here. He broke down the “Add Violence” track “The Lovers” during that episode.
