The 80th annual edition of the ‘Sturgis Buffalo Chip Rally‘ is currently set to go ahead largely as planned. Attendees from around the U.S. are expected to attend and take part in the annual rally/festival in Sturgis, SD this August, despite the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic. The local city council passed a vote last month to support the rally, with a number of PPE guidelines in place for staff, local business owners and vendors, in addition to select events being modified.

However, these guidelines don’t appear to be mandatory with various media reporting that organizers have said masks and social distancing practices will not be required for those attending the event.

A number of concerts will be held throughout the August 07th-16th run of the festival, including sets from Smash Mouth, Trapt, Adelita’s Way, Buckcherry, Drowning Pool, Lit, Quiet Riot, Saving Abel, Night Ranger and more.

Several artists originally booked for the festival, including Willie Nelson, ZZ Top, Puddle Of Mudd and more appear to have exited the bill ahead of time. You can find more info on the event over at buffalochip.com.

As of press time, the state of South Dakota has had 8,019 COVID-19 cases with 118 deaths. Meade County, which Sturgis is located in, has had 59 confirmed cases with 1 death.
