Great White Issue Statement After Playing A Show With No COVID-19 Restrictions

Great White have drawn criticism for performing a show with no apparent social distancing/COVID-19-related restrictions put in place this past Thursday, July 09th. The group performed live in Dickinson, North Dakota as part of the ‘First On First Dickinson Summer Nights‘ concert. It would appear that the lack of any restrictions was put in place by the events organizers. Stark County, in which the city of Dickinson resides, has had 98 COVID-19 positive cases with the state of North Dakota having had 4334 positive cases total with 87 dead.

Great White have since issued the following statement on the show in the wave of the criticism they have faced for the show:

“We understand that there are some people who are upset that we performed this show, during this trying time. We assure you that we worked with the Promoter. North Dakota’s government recommends masks be worn, however, we are not in a position to enforce the laws.

We have had the luxury of hindsight and we would like to apologize to those who disagree with our decision to fulfill our contractual agreement.

The Promoter and staff were nothing but professional and assured us of the safety precautions.

Our intent was simply to perform our gig, outside, in a welcoming, small town.

We value the health and safety of each and every one of our fans, as well as our American and global community.

We are far from perfect.”

Adding to the criticism of Great White for their actions is the band’s tragic history. In 2003 the Jack Russell led variant of the band were found to have used pyrotechnics which accidentally ignited the ceiling of the venue with the resulting blaze killing one hundred people and badly injuring over a hundred others. The band’s guitarist Ty Longley also perished in that blaze.

The Great White who performed at this show featured Mitch Malloy on vocals, while Russell continues to perform separately as ‘Jack Russell’s Great White‘.
