The Ghost Inside Part Ways With Bassist Jim Riley Over Past Racial Slurs

The Ghost Inside have parted ways with their bassist Jim Riley following allegations of past usage of racial slurs against him. Bracewar drummer Rashod Jackson called Riley out on his past behavior earlier in the week, refering to a tour several years back in which Riley is said to used the word repeatedly in regards to their black bus driver.

Riley would go on to apologize for his actions yesterday, June 05th. In a statement issued by The Ghost Inside today, they revealed that Riley has been dismissed by the band:

The Ghost Inside was born from a scene of forward thinking, understanding and progressiveness. Our music and message has always been one of hope and finding that light at the end of the tunnel. Racism and bigotry of any kind stifle that journey towards the light. It closes and lock doors that need to be broken open

We have decided to part ways with bassist Jim Riley. While we didn’t hear these words spoken directly from his mouth, we did hear mutterings of the incident. At the time we thought this to just be a rumor, but it offended and hurt a community. A community we are meant to bring together.

We should’ve spoken up back then but we didn’t, we should’ve dug deeper. We acknowledge that we were silent. We are self educating and growing and learning as individuals. We are here to say that we as a band fully condemn racism and support the black community in the fight against system racism.”

Jackson was previously shown to have called out Riley on the incident back in 2015 and raised the issue again after The Ghost Inside launched a shirt this week to benefit the The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. Riley‘s exit from the band arrives a day after the release of The Ghost Inside‘s new self-titled album—their first since their horrific 2015 bus crash.

Meanwhile, Jackson himself has since come under fire for his past usage of homophobic slurs:
