Brandi Carlile Covers Soundgarden With The Band’s Surviving Members

Brandi Carlile and Soundgarden‘s surviving members have teamied up for a 12″ release of Soundgarden covers that will arrive on Record Store Day. Carlile and her collaborators, Phil and Tim Hanseroth, tracked the covers with Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil, bassist Ben Shepherd and drummer Matt Cameron at London Bridge Studio in Seattle, WA.

Together they took on Soundgarden‘s “Black Hole Sun” and “Searching With My Good Eye Closed“. The 12” has been titled “A Rooster Says“—a reference to a line in the latter track. This particular release will arrive as part of the September 26th ‘Record Store Day‘ drop.

Carlile previously performed “Black Hole Sun” live with Soundgarden during their Chris Cornell tribute show in January of 2019. Meanwhile, Carlile previously posted about these sessions with Soundgarden this past November:

The twins and I met in the late 90’s in a famous Seattle studio called London Bridge. The guy in the picture with me is Rick Parasher (RIP) and he introduced us. Soundgarden were just gods to us back then. Total pioneers and unreachable to us in every way. We went about making our demos and cleaning the studio when we couldn’t afford the bill never knowing that in November of 2019 we would go back to London Bridge and RECORD TWO SONGS WITH THEM!! @chriscornellofficial was as great as a human singer can get and now he’s an angel. Thank you Kim, Ben, and Matt. I’ll never forget this day for as long as I live…. stay tuned!! ?? @soundgarden @themattcameron #kimthayil #benshepherd @londonbridgestudio
