Asking Alexandria frontman Danny Worsnop has shared his views on the band’s evolution and the concerns of fans who feel they have strayed too far from their heavier roots. Worsnop shared his thoughts after a fan presented their opinion to him of a percieved attitude the band have apparently put out which potentially alienates the fans of the band’s earlier material.
Replying to the fan on Twitter, Worsnop commented:
You did a great job.
To clarify, and perhaps reassure, we had nor have any intention or interest in pushing away fans of the older material. This I guess would (hopefully) have been felt had we been able to tour and play the older songs that we had put back into the show. https://t.co/bWKNYCedKb

I’m not sure either how to address the situation. The “heavy” songs of old are obviously still around and we don’t want them to disappear or for those who enjoy them to feel like they aren’t appreciated. However at the same time, making more is not something we want to

do as we don’t enjoy that. I suppose it’s a very fine line that we are faced with in what is a very difficult and seemingly delicate situation. Maybe in time all the pieces will fall into place, maybe one day we’ll find the words or solution to ease it all.

Until then, we felt it appropriate to put some older songs back into the live show for those who love them in hopes that they don’t feel excluded with our hearts not being in that.
Of course that plan is worth little to nothing now what with everything going on…

Above all else I want to figure it out. I want us as people and artists to be able to make the music we enjoy and want to make. I want the band to grow and bring in new fans. I want current fans to be inspired and moved by what we do. And I want the “old” fans to be happy.

Maybe an answer is we find a younger band with that “old” sound. Help produce and develop them… take them under our wing as it were, and put that that out so that those wanting that “old” sound, can still get it? Might be a stupid idea. Just thinking out loud.
