Papa Roach’s Jacoby Shaddix Praises Beartooth, Code Orange & More

While the current situation may keep Papa Roach from potentially revisiting their 3x multi-platinum album “Infest” onstage this year, the band are still planning to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the outing.

To that end they will be broadcasting a special retrospective about the album titled ‘Infest in Conversation‘ this Saturday, April 25th at 1pm PDT / 4pm EDT. In addition to the band’s current lineup, their former drummer Dave Buckner will also be taking part.

Meanwhile, a recent piece over at Stereogum found the band’s frontman Jacoby Shaddix discussing the group’s early days, the inspiration for their breakout single “Last Resort“,  the accompanying music video for it, and more.

Eventually the discussion shifted to how the musical climate has changed as compared to when Papa Roach first started out. When asked about the newer generation of bands, including Code Orange, and what contemporary rock bands he currently enjoys, Shaddix responded:

Code Orange is heavy as fuck, dog. That new record is pretty savage. I’ve given it two listens, and I’m gonna go on a run again today and listen to it again. They are fucking brutal. You feel the pain and anger just seething out of their sound.”

“I love the energy that Beartooth brings to the live stage. Big fan of Slipknot, I love those guys. Bring Me the Horizon are doing some really exciting things with music — they’re breaking down barriers and walls within their own spaces.

There’s this guy Grandson that I dig, who’s on some future blues-Rage Against The Machine shit. I’m excited to see what MGK does, because he went into the studio with some rock guys I know. I think he’s pretty dope. AWOLNATION’s got a vibe, too.”
