Watch Deftones Play “Eros” Track “Smile” Live For The First Time Ever

0

The Deftones did indeed give a live debut to their song “Smile” tonight, November 02nd, during their headlining appearance at their second annual, “Dia de los Deftones‘ festival. That track was originally intended to appear on the band’s shelved album “Eros“, which they began recording back in 2008. The ultimately unfinished record was  put aside when their bassist Chi Cheng was involved in a car accident in November of that year, leaving him with severe injuries that largely left him semi-comatose until his passing in 2013.

Smile” is the only song to have publicly been released from that album, with the band’s frontman Chino Moreno having shared a studio version of it online back in 2014 on the first anniversary of Cheng‘s passing. You can watch fan-filmed footage of the band performing the track live for the first time ever during tonight’s set at Petco Park in San Diego, CA below as part of their aforementioned festival.
