A new report from Billboard.com has provided further data on Tool‘s current record breaking re-emergence on the charts. The group have been enjoying a new wave of success after finally making their catalog available digitally for download/streaming on August 02nd.

While it was revealed earlier today that all of the band’s catalog had hit the Billboard 200 following its arrival on digital services, there’s also been other some new records set in the process.

Furthermore, Billboard have also provided the numbers behind the band’s Billboard 200 performance, here’s how that looks:

  • Ænima“:
    #10 Billboard 200 / #1 Top Rock Albums
(33,000 album equivalent units, 18,000 of which are album sales)
  • Lateralus“:
    #16 Billboard 200 / #2 Top Rock Albums
    (27,000 album equivalent units)
  • 10,000 Days“:
    #18 Billboard 200 / #4 Top Rock Albums
    (24,000 album equivalent units)
  • Undertow
    #19 Billboard 200 / #5 Top Rock Albums
    (23,000 album equivalent units)
  • Opiate“:
    #59 Billboard 200 / #12 Top Rock Albums

The term album equivalent units refers to 1 album sale, 10 song downloads or 1500 song streams when it comes to the RIAA for music consumption in the United States. Billboard however employ a revised metric that sees album equivalent units generated from 1,250 premium audio streams, 3,750 video streams and 3750 ad-supported streams (aka non-subscriber streams.)

In claiming 4 of the top 5 Top Rock Albums spots, the band have bested the previous record of 3 albums set by Linkin Park following the death of their frontman Chester Bennington in 2017. There’s more word on the band’s record breaking (and in some cases record tying) performance over at Billboard.com.

Meanwhile, “Sober” off of Tool‘s 2x multi-platinum 1993 debut album “Undertow” remains the band’s most popular track, notching up 2.9 million U.S. streams and 21,000 downloads sold, earning it the #3 spot on the Top Rock Songs chart.

The band’s performance on the Top Rock Songs chart dated August 17th runs as follows:

  • #03 “Sober” (2.9 million U.S. streams, 21,000 downloads sold)
  • #04 “Fear Inoculum” (3.9 million U.S. streams, 17,000 downloads sold)
  • #05 “Schism” (2.6 million U.S. streams, 15,000 downloads sold)
  • #06 “Forty Six & 2
  • #07 “Stinkfist
  • #08 “The Pot
  • #09 “Ænema
  • #11 “Vicarious
  • #14 “Parabola
  • #17 “Lateralus
  • #18 “Prison Sex
  • #21 “Jambi
  • #22 “Eulogy

The success isn’t limited to the band’s previously released material though. The group released their first new song in 13 years, “Fear Inoculum“, on August 07th. That song is the title track to their new album, which is slated for an August 30th release date. As previously reported, “Fear Inoculum” entered the Billboard Hot 100 at #93, with its 10:21 running length making it the longest track to ever enter that chart.

Even more interesting though, “Fear Inoculum” itself has also become the band’s most streamed track on Spotify and Apple Music since its release. Here’s an updated look at what the band’s most popular tracks are on leading streaming services as of press time:
